Frequently Asked Questions:
How do I choose a group?
You can choose any group that fits your course schedule, but you might want a group that is led by a student in a program similar to yours or with a similar background. Otherwise, groups are not aligned by academic programs or research areas. All groups will cover the same material.
Since this is a pass-fail course, is there a risk in hurting my GPA?
Nope! While your pass-fail grade will go on your official transcript, pass-fail grades are not used to calculate your GPA. That being said, we hope that you will participate fully when you register as that is how you will benefit most from the program.
My department requires that I register for 21 hours for the fall. Can I still sign up for Grad Groups?
Absolutely! This requirement typically exists for students that are a GRA or GTA since they receive a tuition waiver. You would typically register for a number of thesis hours to bring you up to 21. Just decrease this number by one and then add Grad Groups to your schedule.
I'd like to take this course in another semester. Is that possible?
Unfortunately, Grad Groups is only currently offered during the first eight weeks of the fall semester. This is when the program content will be most useful to you. You are encouraged to go ahead and sign up for this fall.
I'm in an online program. Can I register?
No. Unfortunately Grad Groups is only offered to Atlanta-campus students.
Is there an additional cost to sign up?
There are no fees associated with the program. If you are registered full-time (12 or more hours for fall), then there will be no additional cost to participate.
I'm getting an error when registering or am unable to register for some reason. What should I do?
Please email the Instructor of Record, James Black (jblack@gatech.edu), with the specifics of your issue to get it resolved.
